1. In the words of Sri Parasara Bhattar Bhoodevi and Nila devi are like the shadow and kinkaras of Sri Devi . Rangaraja stavam Purva 63 lakshmIm…chAyAmiva and dEvi tvAmanu nIlayA saha…They are like flowersand chandan to Sridevi. So an attribute of Nila has to necessarily be in Sri Devi also. It is common to glorify one of the qualities in each personality. For example kindly refer to the III prakaranam of Acharya Hrdayam
which you have. Alwar experiences Souhardam with Ranganatha, Vatsalyam with Venkatesa,Paresatvam with Polindu ninra piran and so on. That does not mean that Ranganatha does not have Paresatvam or vatsalyam. All the attributes are inseparable with every form. Importance is attached to some in every form. Bhattar in the vishnu sahasranama commentary says ‘Krishnavatara quality is Asruta vatsalyam” The quality for Rama is sousIlyam.Thatdoesnot mean other avataras do not have this quality. All the qualities are forSri Devi and in fact Brahmam finally. They are distributed and glorified for easier understanding and anubhavam. Take your example of vyuha vasudeva sankarshana – aniruddha – and pradyumna are said to have two qualities each of gnana bala iswaya virya sakti tejas. That does not mean the others do not possess the other qualities. The kinkaras of Brahmam divide their duties. Sri Devi requests him topardon the surrender’s papas. BhUdevi a step above hides the papas from him. Nila devi excels as she is the one who took birth in a community i the lower strata – she does not know anything called papa.3. All three are mentioned in the vedas and purvacharya sri sooktis. hrIscatE lakmIsca patnyou … ‘ there are two “ca” used here. One ca is enough to count Lakshmi and BhUdevi. The additional ca is for nIla dEvi. Swami MMunigal in Arti prabandham says vadivArum mAmalarAl valavarugum mattrai maNmagalum Aymagalum idavarugum iruppa naduvaga vIttrirukkum nAranan…It is interesting to note that nIla dEvi is always identified with ayarmadamagal unlike Sri and BhUdevi. This is because – the daughter of kumbha (thebrother of yasoda) was known as nIla only. Pramanam …”nIlA nAmA ca kanya sA rUpa oudArya gunAnvitA…” nappinnai was a name coined by probably alwars. The name is only “pinnai”. Nal is added to glorify as she was the only one who took birth amonst the down trodden. Alwars have used “pinnai” in many places .. pinnai manAlA.. thOli sEr pinnai poruttu. 4. Sri Ramayanam – valmiki gives examples for the greatness of Dasaratha’sthree wives. bala kanda – tasya bhAryAsu tisrushu hrI sri kIrtyupamAsu ca.. hrI for patience and so bhUdevi, srI for wealth and so SridEvi, kIrti for glory and so nIla dEvi.5. nIlO varNa: asti asyA: iti nIla – the definition shows that her name isderived from Her colour. In caraka samhitA nIla is very important asa medicinal plant . This may be indigo plant.6. It is popularly known that krishna to marry nappinnai tamed 7vrshabha. Bhagavan to enjoy an atman , catches hold of two horns, papa and punya, and breaks them. The seven vrshbhas are garbha janma balya youvana jara marana naraka. He kills/ tames these seven and gets releases the atman from the clutches of this samsara to be in eternal bliss with Him. Pramanam : tiruviruttam taniyan vyAkyanam .. karuvirutta kuzhi nIttapin.
